Typography and doctrine

The first issue of the Ensign was published in January 1971. By the end of 2005 there will be 420 issues in print. It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words and on that principle the front cover of the magazine often conveys a message of its own using artwork or photography. On occasion, however, typography alone is used, as it was in July 1973. This is one of my favorite Ensign covers. Using words and color but no photography, it conveys a powerful message worth at least a thousand words.
